So on the first double header day in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the first (day) match is between Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Looking at the recent form, it seems no match already. New Zealand has played exceptionally well over the last few years in ODI cricket whereas Sri Lanka has slumped to one defeat after another during this period including a series defeat to Zimbabwe. However, the game is played on the day and whoever plays it better can win.
Sri Lanka has trusted the experience to lift them up in this world cup by selecting Lasith Malinga for leading the pace attack. As he showed in the IPL, he can still be deadly and accurate in this modern game. If Sri Lanka can keep teams at par totals, they have the batting to try and chase the target. They do not look like a team that can chase big totals. So if New Zealand wins the toss, it would love to set a total and then put Sri Lanka under pressure (if they are not already).
New Zealand on the other hand has settled side under one of the best batsmen in this generation, Kane Williamson. He would look to lead from the front by providing backbone to NZ batting with Ross Taylor and they would hope Martin Guptill has still in him to provide the blazing fast starts like McCullum did in the last world cup.
Overall this match could either be a one side affair or a bit competitive if Sri Lanka can lift themselves up under the newest captain Karunaratne.
