Pakistan finally showed up and took out revenge of 4-0 whitewash earlier in May from England by beating them in the second match of both teams in World Cup 2019. Pakistan successfully defended 348 to win by 14 runs. The stars in the win were Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz with the bowl & Hafeez, Sarfaraz & Babar with the bat.
England had the chase under control with centuries from both Joe Root & Jos Butler but they failed to chase the score Pakistan managed without a single century from any batsmen.
In the mid innings break, England even though conceded close to 350, were hopeful of chasing the score on a ground which is batting friendly and having recorded some of the big scores by them. However, a disciplined bowling effort from Pakistan never let them run away with the game even when Root and Butler were batting together.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan openers provided a good start on which the innings were built further by the contributions from Babar, Hafeez and Sarfaraz who each scored a half century. And though they did not score as many as they would have hoped in last ten overs, it was still enough to beat the number 1 ranked ODI side in the world.
After yesterday’s exciting win of Bangladesh over South Africa, world cup 2019 has given us another exciting match and a win for lower ranked side. Hopefully this is just the start of a competitive world cup which was not looking the case in the earlier few matches.
