World Cup 2019: Bangladesh vs South Africa Match Report

As predicted by WCN (World Cricket News), this match turned out to be the most competitive of all the world cup clashes so far. As stated in our match preview, South Africa is now headed to the India clash on 5th June with 2 losses on the trot to start with world cup campaign. What was suppose to be a no pressure tournament for them is surely turning the heat up on the proteas. Bangladesh beat South Africa by 21 runs and started their world cup campaign with a win. They will now surely believe that they can beat at least four others teams in next 8 matches and have a fairly good chance to reach the semi finals after reaching quarter finals in the last edition.

For Bangladesh, losing the toss was a boon. They were handed batting by the SA captain on the same pitch and ground where they lost chasing against England. They surely underestimated batting prowess of BD and once BD posted a good total, they had the bowlers to apply the choke on the chase. And pressure of chasing big totals in World Cup is never easy and add it to the famous SA history, you know BD had the win in the bag as soon as they scored 54 runs in the last four overs.

Bangladesh started confidently with the bat, taking a bit of time early againsta Lungi Ngidi and Kasigo Rabada. Once they were settled both Tamim and Sarkar started playing their strokes. Sarkar was more attacking and it was him who provided a good start to the Bangladesh innings. While Tamim could not score any substantial amount of runs, he ensured that there was no early damage done to the batting order. Thereafter Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan took over. They had a big 142 runs partnership controlling the middle innings comfortably. The final flourish was provided by Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain.

After finishing up on 330, Bangladesh started their bowling innings well too with tight lines and not allowing any free scoring. Runs dried up and wickets soon followed. And even though Faf Du Plessis and Duminy scored 62 and 45 respectively, they were not able to replicate the BD batters and ended up 21 short of the total.

Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged man of match for his batting and bowling.
