Chennai Super Kings started their IPL campaign with a win and Royal Challengers Bangalore abysmal record against CSK continued.
Earlier in the match, CSK won the toss and sent RCB to bat which Dhoni later said was due to the fact that he was unsure about the pitch behavior. And so it turned out, a slow pitch caused all sorts of trouble to RCB batsmen with none other than Parthiv Patel reaching double figures. Harbhajan Singh was at its vintage best with a spell of four overs starting in the powerplay that left RCB batsmen puzzled. He claimed key top order wickets of Kohli, Moeen Ali & AB de Villiers. Later Imran Tahir followed it up with 4 overs 9 runs and 3 wickets of his own to completely turn the screws on RCB.
Once RCB was shot out for 70 in 17.1 overs, the contest was over. CSK started slow with Watson, fresh from his exploits in PSL, bagging a 10 ball duck causing some excitement. But Rayudu, Raina and later Jadhav played safely and gave CSK win by 7 wickets in the 18th over. It wasn’t as fast and comprehensive as CSK would have liked but they gave themselves leverage of time by bowling out RCB so cheaply.
Harbhajan Singh was declared Man of the Match for his 3-20 for claiming key top order wickets.
