With the recent England vs Pakistan series coming to a conclusion, England stamped their authority on the high scoring encounters with a 4-0 scoreline to not only win the series but start their grand summer in a grand way. With almost every player in squad getting a chance and most importantly grabbing them, it gives selectors enough headache to select the final squad for the world cup 2019 which is just few days ahead.
Talking of this series, the strong batting order of England ensured all totals in completed matches easily cross the 300 target and was the main hero in winning England the matches. Since the last abysmal world cup campaign in 2015, England batting has come a long way to be considered the best batting line up in the world. Jason Roy delivered when it mattered with J Bairstow also making his mark. Then in middle Joe Root stood as a rock and along with Morgan provided the push good opening stands requires to make a big score. And then the usual flourish of Buttler and Stokes was there with Tom Curran stepping up with bat too in these matches to close the innings in style.
In bowling, all of English bowlers even though conceding close or over 300 every time, had a great practice. Archer made his much awaited England debut and went on to have a good series whereas Woakes, Rashid and Curran had a good time too during the series. All in all, this series helped England with a good start to the summer after which they must be feeling confident for the upcoming big battles in the World Cup 2019.
As for Pakistan, they also played some good cricket though lacked the intensity to match England in either bowling or batting. They need their captain to move up in the order and provide solidity to the batting and in bowling, the bowlers need to trust themselves more in order to restrict opposition below chaseable targets. And fielding has to be improved a lot if they wish to compete with sides like England where giving even a single chance to any batsmen can hurt them later.
